Jerzy (Georg) Daniel Schultz was born in Gdansk, Poland, probably about 1615. He learnt the art of painting in the workshop of a famous painter, his uncle, Daniel Schultz the Older (?-1646), for about five years. After his death Jerzy Daniel went to the Netherlands and France to study there. It took him about three years. He came back to Poland in 1649 and became a private painter to the new Polish king - John II. After the abdication of John II, he was private painter to the next two kings - Michael I and John III.
